Seeing Creatively

Recently I started looking for some ways to be more creative.  I mean, I’m creative all day at my job, working on original web designs, creating logos and designing ads and posters.  But it’s tough for me to want to keep doing that same kind of design after hours.  So, in the past few years I’ve taken up cooking lots of new dishes, which is fun and satiates much of my desire to create new things.

But I was also looking for a way to see things creatively

My wife and I have an awesome camera, a Canon Rebel XTi, that takes absolutely amazing photos.  But it’s kinda big and tough to lug around everywhere.

Still looking…

So I decided maybe my iPhone was the way to go.  Always on-hand, I could shoot the things that piqued my interest anytime.  But the iPhone 3G isn’t known for it’s amazing camera and those photos so often came out pretty flat.

Still looking…

Enter my friend and fellow design Reid Piefer.  His awesome new website showcases polaroids shot with his iPhone and edited with ShakeIt Photo or Hipstamatic.  Great stuff and an awesome idea!  Turns out there’s even a group on Flickr of these kinds of photos.

So, I downloaded ShakeIt Photo and started snapping some daily-ish shots of inspiring and interesting views from my eyes.  Check out my photostream and pop in often to view the new stuff I’m enjoying seeing.

From the Window – Fall

Although December seems like it should certainly be winter we’ve had no snow around here and it still feels very much like fall.  On a recent trip around the orchard near my office I grabbed this picture of some apples starting to die on the tree.

In this time of fall and economic deterioration, what kind of business plans are you making for the birth of a new year?  Have you marked out time to take a good look at your past year and prepare for the next?

And, have you had your daily walk yet?

From the Window – Cherries

Ripe Rainier cherriesRanier cherries came into full ripeness last month.  After just a few minutes of gleaning the orchards near the office I had many pounds of delicious fruit.  More than enough for some wonderful cherry milkshakes.

Why not take a break and go eat some fresh fruit, its good for you.

From the Window – In Bloom

Flowers outside the Apt Design officeTo help you get to know Apt Design better, and to help us all appreciate the beauty that is always around us, I will be starting a new set of posts called “From the Window.”  These posts will mainly just be pictures of things that can be seen from the office of Apt Design.

Maybe they will inspire you to see new things from your own workspace, or at least see them in a new way.  I’d love to hear your comments about the idea, and our first post:
