I’ve worked loosely with Nick Ohrn before, and knew him to be a consummate professional who can achieve anything he sets his mind to. Author, business owner, top-notch coder and bodybuilder, Nick is one driven guy who knows what he wants. As it turns out he was the perfect client too: he knew what his goals for his website, he had initial design instruction before saying he trusted my professionalism to design just what he needed, and he was even eager to pay his bill!
For the redesign of his company’s website Nick wanted to keep or increase his incredibly high conversion rate (Nick scrutinizes his Google analytics to get the best performance he can by making subtle tweaks). In addition he wanted a design that better reflected his professionalism, which the bright primary colors of his previous design weren’t doing.
The goal of this entire site is to get visitors to request a quote from Plugin Developer. To that end we kept the Quote form bold, easy to fill out, and consistently placed on every page. The rest of the content is basically just supporting evidence for why you need to contact Nick to develop your plugin (this site doesn’t get too many casual visitors, most are actively looking for a developer). At any point a visitor is convinced and ready to get started the form is ready to help them move forward.
When Brad delivered the initial concepts I was blown away by just how amazing they were. My goals for the redesign were clearly addressed and the initial concepts were already at the point of refinement that I had come to expect of finished products from most other creative professionals.
The professionalism of Nick’s company were conveyed in the greys and blacks of the new design. Texture, splashes of color and non-standard fonts kept the site from being boring or too monotonous. The blacks and vivid oranges present a boldness and strength that reflects Nick’s commitment to great code. Subtle touches of italic and grey kept the site elegant.
